About Religion

I am an agnostic.  I honestly believe there is a higher power to whom I sometimes I pray.  What I don't have is a real and true faith that everything happens for a reason and I can trust that things will work out the way they are supposed to.  And I don't really know who it is that is in charge.

It may sound contradictory but I also believe that some things are meant to be.  That a certain set of circumstances must occur for some things to happen and if they don't, it will come around some other way.

I have studied Buddhism (on my own without a teacher) and try to live by those principles.  Although it is not a religion, I also try to live by the principles of mindfulness.

I envy those people who have a deep faith in God (or whoever) and I hope I have not in the past and do not in the future offend any of you.  I have on occasion prayed for Jesus Christ to come into my life/heart and help me and He has not.  Perhaps there is a lack of sincerity that He detects because I am afraid being a good christian would be too demanding.

That's my two cents.

  1. I personally believe that most of what religion consists of are rules for how to live our lives. The guilt is all added later for control issues... :oD

The only person who has to be pleased with what you think and believe is you...

If you are happy, then you are ok...

  2. I agree with Red Shoes. I don't envy those who have faith in God at all. To me it just means they accepted what they were told and didn't do a lot of thinking.
I used to say I was an atheist and then realized that seriously upset people. So, now I say I'm a Pantheist or a Pagan (depending on who I'm talking with), or that I am simply a believer in Nature as God.
Don't know if any of these will work for you, but it is good to be able to believe there is more. But that more, doesn't need to be a Being that intervenes.
I agree with you on the "some things are meant to be". I call it luck.

  3. To Linda- I DID do a lot of thinking about my belief in God. I accepted God and allowed Him into my life because of my beliefs. You can't stereotype Christians like that.

To jojosek- Don't worry, you have not ever offended me! I am glad my posts are encouraging for you! I wouldn't say that when you prayed Jesus didn't listen and didn't help you. He loves you and only wants the best for you. I am a devout Christian and there are prayers which God says "no" to me right now. I just trust that His ways are higher than my ways and His thoughts higher than mine. Everything has worked out for the good in my life.

My prayer is that God will wrap your heart and mind with His peace and love, and you open wide your heart for Christ to enter. Know that I will be praying for you and if there is ever anything you question about Christianity feel free to ask me- I won't at all be offended.

God is in control of everything!

  4. Whatever works for you is what I say. I don't have a belief in any religion at all and it offends me when someone tries to push it on me. However, I don't mind discussing things, because I like to have different perspectives. I've been agnostic most of my life and the last few years I've ventured toward atheism, but something inside me says that everything is connected in some way--which lends to my theory that 'god' is in everything. It bothers my family greatly that I do not believe in a Christian god, and I just say back to them--it doesn't bother me that you do.
